If a bid is placed in the last ten minutes of the sale, the sale of that item will automatically extend for another 10 minutes from that moment. This will continue until there are no more late bids. This may mean that an earlier lot still sells after a later lot. We have given a starting price for each lot because the system requires this to work effectively.

Payment will be accepted by Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Solo, and Switch, or by cheque which will need to clear before goods are collected if the buyer is not known to us, or by cash. Please note due to money laundering regulations we are unable to accept cash payments in excess of £7500.

Title will not pass until the lot is paid for in full. If we are unable to take payment from the buyer or to make arrangements within three days of the auction we reserve the right to re-offer the picture for sale. 10% of the selling price will be charged against the original buyer. Payment will be taken from the buyers credit card.

Prior to bidding buyers will be asked to register their full details and credit card number with i-bidder.com. This is normal procedure for internet auctions.

By bidding on a lot you are entering into a legal contract to purchase and if you win the item, payment must be made within three days of the sale ending. Failure to do so or to make contact may result in payment being taken from your credit card.

As a service to buyers who are not connected to the internet we will place bids received in writing with the appropriate details, prior to the end of the auction. In the event of two buyers making the same bid which becomes the winning bid then the bid received first will take priority.

Should a buyer be out bid we will make every effort to notify them. However we cannot be held responsible for any mistakes resulting in the failure to purchase.

All bids must be made in Stirling.

Reserves will be placed on each lot and will not be higher than the bottom estimate. It will record on screen if the estimate has not been reached. We reserve the right to continue to bid against the price up to the amount of the reserve.

NOTES FOR ITEMS:

There are several different types of print throughout the catalogue.

VF stands for Vanity Fair Prints. These were published weekly by the Society magazine Vanity Fair between 1869 and 1914 depicting, with a touch of humour, the leading characters of the day employing the outstanding illustrators of the time. They have become very collectable and some of the sporting ones particularly so, however still affordable. The prints in this catalogue are all original prints, not re-prints and have spent their life in a folder in a library so their colour is perfect. However some have an impressed library stamp (denoted in catalogue by IS) in them which is barely noticeable when framed.

Others have a purple stamp in the border so where needed these have been mounted close to the image (denoted in catalogue by CM) to cover this. Many have the date of publication written in pencil (DIP) and some the details of who the caricature represents which of course adds to the interest. They are all offered double mounted in conservation board and unframed. We can frame any of them in a simple wood frame for £25 plus VAT if requested after the sale. The sizes are a little variable but all roughly the same. There are no biographies to go with the prints.

ILN stands for Ilustrated London News Prints These are another growing field for collectors. They are engravings from the newspapers that illustrated the happenings of the day throughout the second half of the 19thC and provide a fascinating illustration of many facets of life as it was seen at the time. They are beautifully mounted in conservation mount board.

There is a 10% buyers commission, but no VAT will be charged to the Buyer.

These items all fall under the Art Dealers Secondhand Scheme and Special Scheme VAT will be paid by the Vendors out of the final selling price.

If you do not have internet access we can bid for you. Please ask for a bidding form.
