East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Our care and support is tailored for the needs of all family members and delivered where the families wish in their own home, at hospital, in the community or at one of three hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quidenham.
We deliver a wide range of services and families can choose which parts of our support they use, including:
* Day care in the family home, hospice or both
* Overnight breaks in the hospice, including families to stay if they wish
* Emotional and psychological support for the children and young people, siblings, parents and carers and extended family and friends
* Symptom management support and advice
* Emergency 24-hour telephone support
* Therapies - music, occupational, hydro and physio
* Specialist play
* Spiritual care
* Care at end of life
* and bereavement support.
For both families accessing care, and those who have been bereaved, EACH is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time. We rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income and need to raise almost £6 million to deliver our services this year £16,000 a day, every day of the year.
The nook appeal:
We need a new hospice to meet the demand for our services in Norfolk. Our Quidenham hospice is one of the oldest in the UK and has been an incredible home-from-home to many families for more than 20 years. However the hospice was converted from an old country house and is extremely restricted in its facilities and development. The demand on our services continues to increase and the care for young people over the last decade has become far more complicated – we are rapidly outgrowing the constraints of the building.
We have planning permission for a new hospice – the nook – on a five-acre site in the parish for Framingham Earl, five miles south of Norwich and alongside the communities of Poringland and Framingham Pigot.
When we raise the funds we need, the nook will be on an idyllic woodland plot, creating a wonderful tranquil setting for children, young people and families. It will also be better positioned in the county, within a thriving local community and won’t be isolated from services, hospitals and road networks.
The nook will have:
