The design features stage lighting, glamorous red curtains and even a bespoke back stage area. Materials and fabrication are by ChopShop CNC.Inspired by celebrity Russell Watson's show-business life on the stage, Travis Alan Mills has captured the contrasts between the glamour of the stage and the functionality of backstage. The kennel design utilises working stage lighting, glamourous illuminated red curtains and a bespoke back stage area, with detail even given to mini-coat hangers for any canine couture. A working light studded mirror is always ready to compliment. The kennel was built in Sheffield with fabrication sponsor Chop Shop and has been designed to be constructed of natural materials, with detail placed on the ‘dog bone’ joint used in CNC manufacturing. The kennel was on display at Crufts.Salford based, Russell Watson said: “I have three dogs myself who are part of the family and bring so much joy to my life, so being asked to be a part of designing a kennel to help other dogs in need seemed an exciting project. It has been fun to help shape the design inspired by my life on the stage and I can’t wait to see it built and know it will hopefully be sold to help more pets in need.”Designer, Travis Alan Mills, said: ‘Having grown up with multiple rescue dogs, I understand the positive impact charities like the Blue Cross make to the livelihood of animals. As soon as I saw the call out to designers, I knew I had to be involved with the fantastic work the charity are doing. I was thrilled to receive a phone call saying I had been partnered with Russell. Furthermore, working closely with Chop Shop CNC in Sheffield, the collaboration has created a truly show worthy kennel!’ Images by Sam Lane photography.

Important Information

Name of event : BowWow Haus London

After over a year in development, more than 60 bespoke dog kennels headed to the auction block to benefit pets in need.

After a five week exhibition in London, original dog kennels created by acclaimed architects, artists, designers and builders went up for sale to the highest bidder on Thursday April 26 at the iconic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

Dog lovers as well as art and architecture enthusiasts from around the world were able to participate in an online auction which served as a run-up to the live auction with antiques broker and BBC presenter David Harper generously acting as auctioneer.

There is still time to bid for one of these remarkable kennels online or for further information,  please contact Heather Little on heather.little@bluecross.org.uk 07768 751979

Bidding in person

Firstly, you will need to register online with the_saleroom.com or in exceptional circumstances at the auction reception before you can start bidding. Please note:

(a) It takes approximately 10 minutes to register, so preregistration is essential as auctions get really busy. Please leave enough time to complete the process.

(b) You will be asked for the following information: your name, address, telephone number, email address and a valid credit/debit card

(c) Once registration is complete, you won’t need to do this again (but please let us know if you have any changes to your personal details)

(d) A number will be handed to you. It’s a card printed with a personal buyer number for you to use in the auction

(e) During the auction, when you wish to bid on an item, just raise the number and make the auctioneer aware of your intention

(f) Other bidders will do the same thing and they may bid against you

(g) The auctioneer will continue to accept bids until all but one of the bidders drops out

Commission bids

If you can’t attend the auction in person there are several options available to you. One of them is to leave an ‘absentee or commission bid’.

This enables you to leave a price value that the auctioneer and the salesroom clerk can bid up to, on your behalf, during the auction. They will always try to secure the item for the lowest price possible.

If two bids of equal value are received, preference is given to the bid that arrives first.

Online commission bids

It couldn’t be simpler to leave an online commission bid. Visit the_saleroom.com and click ‘Leave an Absentee/

Commission Bid’ tab against the lot you want to bid on:

(a) If you are already registered, just enter your user name and password, which will allow you to place the commission bid

(b) First time buyers will need to register and provide full contact details before a bid can be placed. You will then receive a confirmation email.

(c) Any changes or cancellations to commission bids needs to be made before 11am on the day of the auction

(d) If you bid successfully you will be contacted by phone to confirm collection and payment. An email will be sent to any bidder we have been unable to reach.

(e) All lots must be paid for and delivery arranged by 1pm on Thursday 3 May

(f) Storage charges will be incurred after this time at a rate of £20+VAT per day, per lot

(g) All online commission bidding closes at 11am on the day of the auction. No bids will be accepted after this time.

Live bidding online

Through our online partner the_saleroom.com you can place ‘absentee bids’ or live bids while the auction is taking place. Follow these steps for a smooth bidding experience:

(a) You will need to register on The Saleroom site

(b) As soon as you’ve received confirmation of your registration you can leave a commission bid or live bid when the lot comes up for auction

(c) Leave plenty of time to register for the auction

(d) Absentee bids are available up to one hour before the start of the auction

(e) Blue Cross standard Terms & Conditions apply

Live telephone bids

Live telephone bids will be accepted on lots with an estimate of £500 upwards. Telephone bids on lots of a lower value may be accepted at our discretion.

(a) A member of staff will call the buyer and relay the bids to the auctioneer during the bidding of the desired lot. Please respond quickly and clearly so our staff member can do the best possible job they can for you. The

auctioneer’s hammer can come down very quickly and once down the sale of that lot is over.

(b) There is a maximum of five live telephone bids on the night of the auction

(c) A member of staff will call the buyer within enough time ahead of the intended lot. Be sure to provide a contact number you can be reached on at all times.

(d) Telephone lines and mobile phone reception aren’t 100% reliable. All telephone bidders are asked to provide two telephone numbers, plus a covering bid. It means that the auction clerk can bid on the buyer’s behalf in the event of a communication failure.
