A Japanese Sword - 2.8 Million Yen Swordsmith.A rare opportunity to acquire a blade by the preeminent twentieth century swordsmith Horii Hideaki. Horii Kanekichi was born in 1886 and in 1905 entered the school of Horii Taneaki where he was given the name Kaneaki. In 1913 his name was changed to Hideaki and finally to Toshihide in 1933. See page 173 of Slough where he is rated at 2.8 million Yen and page 779 of the Nihonto Meikan where he is rated as an intangible cultural property. As shown in the oshjgata below, this particular blade is signed Minamoto Hideaki saku and is dated Taisho kyu-nen ni-gatsu hi which reads as a day February 1920. Comparative oshigata are also shown from page 15 of Fujishiro, page 626 of Kataoka and page 30 of Slough. As shown, the blade, mounted as a kyugunto, has a complex gunome-chojo midare hamon throughout the blade with a deep boshi.

4.8 Shipping Any shipping costs that may arise subsequently to the sale shall be at the Buyer’s expense. 4.9 Loss or Damage C.A does not accept liability for loss or damage occurring to Lots after the sale. C.A will use reasonable efforts when handling/packing/storing purchased Lots, but shall not be responsible for any loss or damages that may occur whilst the said Lot is in any third party’s care.
